Strangers on a Train is a 1951 American film by the studio Warner Bros. It was produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The film stars Farley Granger, Ruth Roman, Robert Walker, Leo G. Carroll, Kasey Rogers (credited as Laura Elliott), and Patricia Hitchcock.
The film was based on the novel of the same name by Patricia High smith, who also wrote The Talented Mr. Ripley. Detective novelist Raymond Chandler wrote an early draft of the screenplay, despite his having considered the story implausible.
